Dr. Charlene Thornton

Charlene Thornton, MBA, MPhil, is a dedicated early childhood educator with a profound commitment
to nurturing young minds. With nearly two decades of experience, she serves as the proprietor and
operator of a Family Home Childcare (LSLC), where her mission is to provide children with a nurturing
and affectionate educational environment.
Within the early childhood education community, Charlene holds prominent leadership positions. As the
Chapter Development Chair and Chapter Representative for the Florida Family Childcare Home
Association (FFCCHA), she actively promotes the expansion and advancement of childcare businesses
across the state. Additionally, she holds the positions of Secretary and Membership Chair for the North
Florida Family Childcare Association (NFFCCA), ensuring exceptional care standards and fostering a
strong sense of community among caregivers.
In her academic pursuits, Charlene has achieved notable milestones. Graduating from Loris High School
in 1995, she went on to earn her Bachelor of Science degree in Child and Family Development with a
concentration in Childcare Administration from Benedict College, Columbia, SC, in 2002. Building upon
this foundation, she obtained a Business Administration Certificate and an MBA with a concentration in
Small Business and Entrepreneurship from Walden University in 2019. Continuing her academic journey,
Charlene earned a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in 2022 while studying for her PhD in Developmental
Psychology, specializing in Child and Adolescent psychology, at Walden University, with an anticipated
graduation in December 2024.
Throughout her tenure at Walden University, Charlene was honored to become a member of several
prestigious organizations, including The National Society of Leadership and Success, Psi Chi
(International Honor Society in Psychology), Golden Key Honor Society, Florida Psychology Association
(FPA), and American Psychology Association (APA).
Outside of her professional and academic commitments, Charlene founded B&B Scholar Academy
(BBSA) with the aim of creating a foundation for students to cultivate a community of learners who are
inspired by transformative learning and will make meaningful intellectual contributions to society.
